Daniel Villarreal has long been a widely known and beloved character on the Chicago music scene, veering between folkloric Latin music and the city’s flourishing jazz and improvised music scene. Originally from Panama, he fuses his pan-Latin style with influences of psychedelic rock, Cumbia, afro-beat, boogaloo, rock, free experimental jazz, hip-hop, and funk to create an original contemporary soundscape. On almost any night of the week, you’ll find him DJing at at least one spot on bustling 18th Street in his home neighborhood of Pilsen, specializing in groovy vintage Afro-diasporic sounds and showcasing his knowledge of world music, electronica, Tropicalia, vintage Latin soul, Chicha, psychedelic Cumbia, Afrobeat, reggae, funk, and groovy deep cuts beats. If he’s not there, he’s playing drums with Dos Santos, Valebol, The Los Sundowns or Ida yVuelta (all bands he co-leads), or sitting in with Wild Belle or Rudy De Anda. All of these instincts merge in his own projects, which employ post-production as an instrument a laMakaya McCraven.

Opening: Joel Forlines - host of the weekly soul night at The Woodshop, Joel is a force of nature and music, leading his audience into good vibes and a one of a kind show.

“Blending the cool blues-rock of acts like The Black Keys and North Mississippi Allstars with a Memphis soul sound. . .” Glide Magazine

Tony Holiday has been at the center of a Memphis soul blues revival anchored by a contingent of young, savvy, well-schooled musicians who have a "family-like" attitude and a strong belief in one another. Over the past couple of years, Holiday and his talented young band have been touring hard, taking spells in between to write and record with Producer Eric Corne in Memphis and Los Angeles. The result is Keep Your Head Up, an album that covers a tremendous amount of territory over eight pithy tracks. It features a nice array of special guests including Eddie 9V, Kevin Burt, Albert Castiglia and Laura Chavez, last year's Blues Music Award winner for 'Guitarist of the Year’.

"There's something in the water in Memphis, and Tony Holiday has tapped into it to contribute to an exciting new chapter unfolding in this storied region." - Blues Town Music.

To celebrate International Blues Day Jhett Black will be bringing special guests to the stage to capture the improvisational nature and soul of the blues.

Americana, rock, folk, singer-songwriter Andy Sydow is a jack-of-all-trades. As an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who's lyrics paint a picture of poetic realism, Sydow tours consistently both solo and with a backing band. Throughout the course of a show he’s known to croon an audience with acoustic guitar ballads, sing a few numbers on his lap steel, and sit down at the keys to show off his surprising boogie-woogie piano chops. He draws comparisons to voices like Paul Simon and Jackson Browne, mixed with a roots rock vibe reminiscent of Tom Petty or Nathaniel RateliffSydow has toured internationally, received AAA airplay, become a two-time finalist in the Kerrville New Folk Songwriter Competition, and supported numerous acts. The acts he has supported include Shane Smith & The Saints, Dick Dale, Chuck Prophet, Tab Benoit, Samantha Fish, Lucero, and Anders Osborne. Following the release of his EP, Measure 1: Orchestral Arrangements by Andy Sydow, 2024 will see the release of his full length album produced by Anders Osborne that was recorded at Dockside Studios in Maurice, LA. Osborne produced as well as played guitar and sang backing vocals. Mike Dillion provided the percussion, and Casandra Faulconer completed the quartet on bass. Aside from his own career as an artist and songwriter, Sydow has production credits that include Lauren Frihauf (The Voice, Season 19), Payge Turner (The Voice, Season 19), Veronica May, and more. When he's not touring, writing, or recording, Sydow spends time talking to other creatives and music industry professionals on his podcast, Middle Class Rock Star.

The Resonant Rogues’ dark Appalachian folk paints a picture of their lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina and on the road. Anchored by the songwriting duo of Sparrow Smith (banjo, accordion) and Keith Josiah Smith (guitar), they’ve traveled the byways and highways of America and crossed the oceans with instruments in tow. From riding freight trains to building their own homestead, the pair are no strangers to blazing unconventional trails. At once rooted and adventurous, each song tells a story of real experiences, friendships, and challenges. The Rogues wrapped up a record in Nashville with renowned producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff), featuring guest appearances from Sierra Ferrell, Benjamin Tod, John James Tourville (The Deslondes), and Jason Dea West.

“Their intense cohesion is so intertwined that it feels like they’re playing with one pair of hands.” –No Depression “I urge you to get out and hear them” -Lonesome Highway

Opening:

Michael Story, known as The Appalachian Son, is an Army veteran, musician, and 8th-generation Appalachian with deep roots in Western North Carolina. Saturday September 6th 2025

Join us for an evening with Max Gomez and Shannon McNally co-headlining for a night of folk, blues, and songcraft.

Singer/Songwriter Max Gomez grew up in Taos, New Mexico, where he fell under the influence of country blues early on and developed a songwriting style that was uniquely his. As a budding performer, Max apprenticed in the rarefied musical micro-climate of northern New Mexico, where troubadours like Michael Martin Murphey and Ray Wylie Hubbard helped foster a Western folk sound both cosmic and country. He received critical acclaim upon the release of his debut album Rule The World (2013, New West Records); and his subsequent EP, Me and Joe (2017, Brigadoon Records), contained a freshly minted classic, “Make It Me.” He has shared billing on hundreds of stages with stalwarts of the genre like James McMurtry, Buddy Miller, John Hiatt, Patty Griffin, Tommy James & The Shondells, Jeff Beck, and Johnny Depp. Judging by the company he keeps, Gomez is poised to emerge as a prominent voice of Americana’s next generation.  The forthcoming album, Memory Mountain, is set to be released in August 2025.

Grammy nominee Shannon McNally’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990s with bands like Derek Trucks and Railroad Earth. Since then, her catalog has grown to span the whole of the Americana music spectrum, both writing original songs as well as interpreting the songs of others. She brings a soul-stirring musicality to her craft. Her honest and, at times, elegant voice immediately grabs one by the heartstrings. Not to mention as it turns out, she is also an exceptional electric guitar player. McNally has fourteen albums to her name and a string of single self-releases on her personal label, Queen Maeve Records. Her latest album, “Live At Dee’s,” is a career retrospective song list captured over four nights in September of 2022 with a revolving band of Nashville musicians. Showcasing McNally’s wonderful storytelling and sense of wry humor, the 18-song disc captures her at her most relaxed in her natural habitat of neighborhood Honky Tonk. For those who have followed McNally’s twenty-plus-year career, the thing that sticks with listeners the most about her is the timeless effortlessness she brings to all she does. With an impressive catalog and extensive list of collaborators with whom she has written, recorded, and toured; McNally continues to turn out great music across wide-flung ends of the spectrum, defying genre-fication. At home on any stage, from Lincoln Center to the juke joints of Mississippi—she always brings the house down.
