The Resonant Rogues’ dark Appalachian folk paints a picture of their lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina and on the road. Anchored by the songwriting duo of Sparrow Smith (banjo, accordion) and Keith Josiah Smith (guitar), they’ve traveled the byways and highways of America and crossed the oceans with instruments in tow. From riding freight trains to building their own homestead, the pair are no strangers to blazing unconventional trails. At once rooted and adventurous, each song tells a story of real experiences, friendships, and challenges. The Rogues wrapped up a record in Nashville with renowned producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff), featuring guest appearances from Sierra Ferrell, Benjamin Tod, John James Tourville (The Deslondes), and Jason Dea West.

“Their intense cohesion is so intertwined that it feels like they’re playing with one pair of hands.” –No Depression “I urge you to get out and hear them” -Lonesome Highway

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2025

“Goldpine is folksy and falls within the Americana genre but their musical arrangements are very innovative and eclectic.” - Melissa Clarke (Americana Highways, July 7, 2022)

From Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion and the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium to listening rooms throughout the United States, husband-wife duo GOLDPINE has been offering their own brand of bold harmony-driven Americana to audiences large and small. WINNER of the 2022 Rocky Mountain Songwriter Contest, their distinctive harmonies are clearly a channel for their sometimes-raucous, sometimes-reminiscent compositions. With an incredible collection of stories about life, love, and purpose, their live performance is a powerful projection of everything Goldpine is about: striking vocals, bold harmony, and introspection into the human experience.

After nearly a decade of honing in on their sound, Goldpine will release their third album appropriately titled Three, which gives the listener a glimpse into their live energy captured from the road.  On their lead single, “Alabama Born”, brazen family harmonies with understated guitars underscore the pain & joys of an Alabama upbringing.  Mastered by Dave McNair (Shovels & Rope, Brandi Carlile), this Americana single emphasizes a father’s alcohol addiction and the burial of so many family members.  On the minimalist single “Understand”, Kassie's country-retro-soul vocals give way to howling electric guitars and ethereal vocal interludes, as it balances the tenderness and tension of long-term love.  Three is about real people and real situations, told through candid and passionate songwriting. Exposing the pains of severed relationships and unearthing the pursuits of love and purpose, Goldpine is cathartic, moody, dissonant and relevant, all intertwined into one.

Join us for an evening with Max Gomez and Shannon McNally co-headlining for a night of folk, blues, and songcraft.

Singer/Songwriter Max Gomez grew up in Taos, New Mexico, where he fell under the influence of country blues early on and developed a songwriting style that was uniquely his. As a budding performer, Max apprenticed in the rarefied musical micro-climate of northern New Mexico, where troubadours like Michael Martin Murphey and Ray Wylie Hubbard helped foster a Western folk sound both cosmic and country. He received critical acclaim upon the release of his debut album Rule The World (2013, New West Records); and his subsequent EP, Me and Joe (2017, Brigadoon Records), contained a freshly minted classic, “Make It Me.” He has shared billing on hundreds of stages with stalwarts of the genre like James McMurtry, Buddy Miller, John Hiatt, Patty Griffin, Tommy James & The Shondells, Jeff Beck, and Johnny Depp. Judging by the company he keeps, Gomez is poised to emerge as a prominent voice of Americana’s next generation.  The forthcoming album, Memory Mountain, is set to be released in August 2025.

Grammy nominee Shannon McNally’s live music career began on the jam band circuit of the 1990s with bands like Derek Trucks and Railroad Earth. Since then, her catalog has grown to span the whole of the Americana music spectrum, both writing original songs as well as interpreting the songs of others. She brings a soul-stirring musicality to her craft. Her honest and, at times, elegant voice immediately grabs one by the heartstrings. Not to mention as it turns out, she is also an exceptional electric guitar player. McNally has fourteen albums to her name and a string of single self-releases on her personal label, Queen Maeve Records. Her latest album, “Live At Dee’s,” is a career retrospective song list captured over four nights in September of 2022 with a revolving band of Nashville musicians. Showcasing McNally’s wonderful storytelling and sense of wry humor, the 18-song disc captures her at her most relaxed in her natural habitat of neighborhood Honky Tonk. For those who have followed McNally’s twenty-plus-year career, the thing that sticks with listeners the most about her is the timeless effortlessness she brings to all she does. With an impressive catalog and extensive list of collaborators with whom she has written, recorded, and toured; McNally continues to turn out great music across wide-flung ends of the spectrum, defying genre-fication. At home on any stage, from Lincoln Center to the juke joints of Mississippi—she always brings the house down.

Brother and The Hayes is the kind of band that makes any room feel like home.
This Texas-born, Tennessee-based sibling duo — Jennie Hayes Kurtz and David Bingham — bring to the stage an undeniable chemistry, sharp songwriting, and a groove-driven blend of Americana, folk, country, and blues.

Their show is heartfelt, funny, and deeply musical — one moment they’ll have you leaning in for a lyric, the next you’ll be tapping your foot and singing along.

With roots in the storytelling traditions of Guy Clark and John Prine, and the soulful sensibilities of Bonnie Raitt and Norah Jones, Brother and The Hayes create a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

“There’s a crackling confidence here... Their plainspoken lyrics and undeniable chops give In Good Company a timeless warmth.” — Rachel Cholst, Adobe & Teardrops

Live, they shine — whether it’s just the two of them swapping harmonies and stories, or their full band bringing down the house with rich arrangements and joyful energy.

David’s a crack shot on his riff rifle and a sharp-witted storyteller; Jennie Hayes is a grounding force with a powerhouse voice and a natural way of connecting with the crowd.

Together, they make audiences feel like part of the family.
Don’t miss a chance to see their show — musically rich, emotionally real, and truly entertaining, Brother and The Hayes is an unforgettable experience. A favorite of The Woodshop's.

A Special Night of Celtic and Irish Music Feat. Southern Irish Dance

Thursday night, the craic will be mighty! After our soul session, join us for a true Irish session with The Sternwheelers, masters of high-energy jigs, reels, and heartfelt ballads. The night gets even livelier with a special performance from Southern Irish Dance, our local Irish dance troupe, who’ll take the floor in full flight alongside the band. It’s an evening made for lovers of Celtic and Irish music, pint in hand and feet tapping ‘til closing time.

Born out of the rowdy warmth of the Irish session scene, The Sternwheelers are a merry gathering of musicians who’ve spent their lives steeped in tunes, tales, and the crackle of good company. Patrick Martin’s path ran from rock stages to country roads before finding its true home in the ringing strings of the bouzouki. Sean Cunningham grew up in his father’s New York pub, cutting his teeth on Pogues tunes and learning the ways of the whistle and flute from some of the finest hands in Irish music. Josh Jernigan, a lifelong drummer with a keen ear for rhythm, found the bodhrán and never looked back, driving the heartbeat of sessions wherever he could find them.

Joined at times by dear friends like master piper Fiachra O’Regan of Galway, fiddle and concertina ace Claire Shirey, and Dublin-born uilleann piper Pat D’Arcy, the band blends the soul of Irish tradition with the grit of American roots. Their music sails the Atlantic in both directions, where jigs and reels meet country ballads, and songs of longing, mischief, and the emigrant’s heart are poured out with equal measure of fire and tenderness. Whether reimagining a pub classic, spinning a fresh tune of their own, or firing off a set of session reels, The Sternwheelers play with the joy of friends who know the craic is best when it’s shared.

An Evening with Tennessee Jet

Before Tennessee Jet became known for his genre-defying music that straddles the line between Red Dirt country and grungy rock, he traveled the interstates with his bronc-riding father and barrel-racing mother. From the bench seat of an old Ford pickup truck pulling a horse trailer to the next rodeo, he’d watch the hills and grasslands of America fly by.

Country music was always on the radio, and those honest, heartfelt classics by icons like Willie Nelson and Dwight Yoakam — both of whom he’d later join on tour — left a permanent mark.

Tennessee Jet’s newest album, Ranchero, continues his diverse musical explorations, blending twangy guitars and Appalachian fiddle with a grungy groove in tracks like “Ray Wylie Hubbard” and the platinum-streaming hit “Bury My Bones.” This album not only nods to his roots but also pushes the boundaries of what country music can be, showcasing his full-band capabilities and collaborative spirit.

Throughout his career, Tennessee Jet has been on a constant journey of self-reinvention, creating music that’s uniquely his own.

“My career has been a constant purging of what I’ve done before, so I can reinvent and create something that’s uniquely me,” he explains.

His approach has always been to fuse the contrasting elements of rock’s distorted stomp with country’s twang, paying homage to influences like Neil Young and Jack White while crafting narratives that reflect a lifelong exploration of self and place. His lyrics reference literary heroes like Faulkner, Shakespeare, Kerouac, and Woody Guthrie, alongside vivid depictions of his own experiences — from speeding down the Indian Nation Turnpike to honoring the DIY ethos of his early days.

“I’m always looking to challenge the definition of what a specific genre is supposed to sound like,” Jet says. “People are aching for truth in country music again, and that’s what these records came to represent.”

His albums — from South Dakota through The Country and now Ranchero — stand as a testament to his artistic crossroads, where nostalgia meets innovation, crafting a version of country music that is both fresh and familiar.

An evening with Cory Branan

Over the last two decades Cory Branan has released five albums to much critical acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork and Rolling Stone among others, who called him, “A country boy with a punk-rock heart.” He has toured extensively, appearing on stages from Letterman and the Ryman to your town’s shittiest punk bar.

“...a career stacked with lonesome country anthems to life on the road, delivered in a voice that's pleasantly weathered.” - NPR

Branan’s songs have been covered by such artists as Frank Turner and Dashboard Confessional. He has also collaborated with the likes of Jason Isbell, Laura Jane Grace (Against Me!), and Craig Finn (The Hold Steady)who have been included as featured guests on previous records. Branan has even been mentioned in the Lucero song, “Tears Don’t Matter Much” with the lyrics, “Cory Branan’s got an evil streak, and a way with words that’ll bring you to your knees.”

“It’s rad”, says Branan, “to have a new home with nice folks at Blue Èlan who’ve threatened to turn me loose to make my kind of weird American music, and I’m really looking forward to getting into the studio this fall and giving it hell.”

Larry & Joe were destined to make music together.

Larry Bellorín hails from Monagas, Venezuela, and is a legend of Llanera music. Joe Troop is from North Carolina and is a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old-time musician. Larry was forced into exile and is now an asylum seeker in North Carolina. Joe, after spending a decade in South America, found himself stranded back in his hometown during the pandemic. While Larry worked construction to make ends meet, Joe’s acclaimed “latingrass” band, Che Apalache, went on hiatus, leading him to focus on advocacy work with asylum-seeking migrants. Then, Larry met Joe. Currently based in North Carolina’s Triangle region, the two are versatile multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo, they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, maracas, guitar, upright bass — and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. Their program blends their rich musical inheritances with storytelling about the ways music and social movements intertwine.

Nicholas Edward Williams Opening:

Host of the roots music history podcast American Songcatcher, Nicholas Edward Williams is a multi-instrumentalist and storyteller dedicated to “playing it forward” by preserving the songs, stories, artists, and styles that have shaped our country — Ragtime, Piedmont Blues, Early Country, Traditional Folk, and Old-Time.

Williams has spent the last 15 years touring three continents, performing across the U.S., as well as the UK, Western Europe, and Australia, blending the roots music spectrum into his own distinctive style.

Under his previous project, Whetherman, Williams independently released eight well-regarded records from 2007–2018. Under his own name, his critically acclaimed sophomore release, Folk Songs For Old Times’ Sake (late 2021), has been praised by respected figures of the roots community, including David Holt, Oliver Wood, Dom Flemons, and JP Harris.

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 12TH, 2025

William Elliott Whitmore’s gravel-deep voice first turned heads far beyond the Americana underground when his haunting version of "Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie," appeared in Red Dead Redemption. With the fire of a 1920s gospel preacher and a fascination with sin, death, and redemption, Whitmore conjures a raw blend of country blues, field hollers, and punk spirit. His music feels unearthed rather than written—timeless, weathered, and fiercely alive.

Raised on a small farm in Lee County, Iowa, Whitmore grew up working the land and absorbing the music of his family—banjo, accordion, guitar and all. After early days in the hardcore punk scene, he carved out a singular voice with his 2003 debut Hymns for the Hopeless, later signing to punk-rooted label ANTI- and releasing a string of acclaimed albums. His most recent, Silently, The Mind Breaks, returns to stark, powerful storytelling—proving once again that his songs aren’t just performed, they’re lived.
